About the University

The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) is a federal government university in Owerri West, the capital of Imo State, Nigeria. The university is bounded by the communities of Eziobodo, Umuchima, Ihiagwa and Obinze. It is the premier federal university of technology in the South-East and South-South parts of Nigeria.

The university is the oldest university of technology in Nigeria and was established in 1980 by executive fiat with the composition and appointment of the first provisional council by Nigeria’s first Executive President, Shehu Shagari. It became the first of three such universities set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria which sought to establish a University of Technology in each geo-political region and particularly in a state which did not have a conventional university.

FUTO General Admission Requirements for 2022/2023 Academic Session

Any candidate who wishes to secure FUTO Undergraduate Admission for the 2022/2023 academic session is expected to possess the following qualifications:

• Candidates must be up to 16 years old.
• Candidates must have at least six (6) Credits passes in their O’level result. This must include English Language, Mathematics and any other relevevant subjects to the chosen course of study. Also, the O’level result(s) must not exceed two sittings
• Candidates must score at least minimum JAMB UTME cut-off mark for 2022.
• Candidates must take FUTO post UTME screening examination and must perform very well in the examination (Depending on the course of study)
• Candidate must make Federal University of Technology, Owerri, (FUTO) his/her first choice institution in JAMB.

4. Very good passes in three JUPEB subjects namely Mathematics, Geography and any of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Economics, Technical Drawing and Fine Arts. It does not accept NCE. Candidates must in addition meet the ‘O’ Level requirements.

FUTO General Admission Requirements.

The general FUTO admission requirements indicate the requirements which every candidate need to meet before being eligible for admission into the university. That is to say, every candidate who will be given admission into the institution at any point will have already met these requirements before they are even considered at all.

Since there are two entry methods through which candidates can gain admission into FUTO, which is the UTME & the direct entry method, these requirements will be split in two.

Candidates applying for admission through the UTME must:

• Have reached the age of 16 years and above before admission.
• Have a minimum 6 credit grades ( at least 6 C grades) including Mathematics and English in their O’ Level results. The O’Level result could be either WAEC or NECO.
• Have complete O’Level results in one sitting. O’Level Results from two sittings are not considered.
• Have a minimum total score of 180 in JAMB UTME examination.
• Participate fully in the Post UTME screening examination and exercise organized by the management of the university.
• Choose correct subject combination for their course in JAMB. For example, someone applying for admission in Medicine must have a subject combination of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Any subject out of these combination will render the result invalid for Medicine and Surgery.
• Meet required cut off marks for different courses in the institution.

FUTO admission requirements through Direct entry are outlined as follows:

• Minimum of 16 years of age at time of admission.
• A minimum 5 credit grades ( at least 5 C grades) including Mathematics and English in their O’ Level results. The O’Level result could be either WAEC or NECO. Two sittings are not allowed.
• Candidates must own at least one of the following certificates: OND, ND, NCE, IJMB, Cambridge A level, BSc, HND, and ICAN.
