University of Leeds International Scholarship Overview

Then you can apply for the International Post-doctoral Research Fellowships offered by the University of Leeds for the academic year 2022/2023.
The primary purpose of this University of Leeds International Scholarship is to support aspirants who want to undertake Post-doctoral research in biomedical research, specifically cancer biology, immunology, or virology.

This is a joint project between the labs of Dr. Fiona Errington-Mais, Professor Sue Burchill, and Professor Graham Cook in the School of Medicine.
The University, established in 1904, is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK. We are renowned globally for the quality of our teaching and research.
At the Leeds Institute of Medical Research (LIMR) at St. James’s, we investigate the causes and treatment of disease at the level of molecules, cells, patients, and populations.
LIMR is the largest research institute in the School of Medicine. They have around 90 academic staff, approximately 400 research staff, and research students.
Most of their activity is undertaken at the St. James’s Hospital campus, with some staff on the main University campus and at the Leeds General Infirmary.
The University of Leeds will award the selected candidates a salary of £34,304 to £40,927 p.a. for the academic year 2022/2023.

- Eligible Course or Subjects: Research degree in biomedical research, cancer biology, immunology, and virology offered by the university.
- Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
- A first degree and PhD in cancer cell biology, immunology, virology, or other closely allied disciplines;
- Experience in using a variety of cell-based models in cancer biology or immunology applications, including the processing of fresh tissue and working with primary human cells.
- Practical experience in studying immunological responses and immune cell phenotyping.
- Practical experience in molecular biology or virology (up to biological safety level (BSL) 2 containment);
- Practical experience in protein and RNA biochemistry and analysis;
- A track record of publications in well-regarded, peer-reviewed international journals;
- The ability to design, execute and write up research independently to the standard required for research reports and international publications;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and an established ability to communicate research at national and international conferences;
- Good time management and planning skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing demands effectively, without close support;
- A proven ability to work in an organized way both individually and within a team;
- A strong commitment to your continuous professional development.
