About the University
The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, originally the Federal University of Agriculture, is a federal university in Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria was established as a specialized University by a Federal Government of Nigeria Decree No 48 of November 1992. It began formal activities in May 1993 with the appointment of the first Council and Vice-Chancellor Professor Placid C. Njoku on 27 May 1993, while other key officials of the University were appointed later.
The first set of students were admitted into the institution during the 1993/94 academic year with a student population of 82.

General Admission Requirements
Gaining admission into an Undergraduate Programme in MOUAU is basically under 2 entry method which includes the UTME entry and the Direct Entry.
MOUAU admission requirements through UTME
The minimum age for admission is 16 years. Students are admitted into the University degree programmes through a competitive entrance examination (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination -UTME) organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). A candidate must in addition have an acceptable score in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination or a Diploma, NCE with at least lower credit. The candidate should at least possess a minimum of 5 credit passes at the SSCE or equivalent obtained at not more than 2 sittings in relevant subjects including English and Mathematics. The B. Agriculture programme, requires five credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE ‘O’ Level which must include Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Physics and English Language. However, every applicant must have attempted Physics and Mathematics at WASC/SSCE/GCE O’ Level. The exact requirements of different programmes which may be modified from time to time by the university Senate could be obtained from the University Registry as well as JAMB’s information publications for potential students.
MOUAU admission requirements through Direct Entry
Candidates who wish to gain admission through direct entry into the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture (MOUAU) must meet the following requirements:
- Candidates must possess at least five (5) Credits in their O’level result. This must include English Language and Mathematics. However, two sitting result is not allowed.
- Candidates must have also reached the age of 16.
- Candidates are expected to get JAMB Directly entry form from JAMB to apply.
- Candidates should have any of the following certificates: OND, ND, NCE, IJMB, Cambridge A level, BSc, HND, ICAN
TRANSFER CANDIDATES:
Candidates who wish to transfer from other universities into the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, are required to:
- Purchase and complete the prescribed application form obtainable from the University Registry at Umudike.
- Posses the minimum entry requirements for admission into the university as well as the special requirements of the proposed Department/ programme.
- Ensure that their academic transcripts and special reports on them (forwarded by appropriate officials of their former institutions) are received in the admission office of the University.
CHANGE OF COURSE/DEPARTMENT:
in a case where an admitted student couldn’t meet the criteria of a department as a result, such student can be changed to a new department provided he/she meets the criteria of the other department.
