About The University
The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) is a Federal higher institution located in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State in northeast Nigeria. The university was created by the federal government of Nigeria in 1975, with the intention of its becoming one of the country’s principal higher-education institutions.[1] It enrolls about 25,000 students in its combined programs, which include a college of medicine and faculties of agriculture, arts, environmental science, Allied health science, Basic medical science, dentistry, education, engineering, law, management science, pharmacy, science, social science, and veterinary medicine. With the encouragement of the federal government, the university has recently been increasing its research efforts, particularly in the fields of agriculture, medicine and conflict resolution, and expanding the university press. The university is the major higher institution of learning in the north-eastern part of the country.

UNIMAID General Information on Admission Requirements
i) In order to be admitted to a Bachelor Degree in any of the Faculties, a prospective
student must satisfy the minimum University Entrance Requirement (and where
applicable, the additional faculty requirements as provided in the regulartions governing
admission) detailed by Joint Admission and Metriculation Board.
ii) Follow an approved course of studey for a prescribed period; Pass the required
examinations set out in thee detailed degree regulations of the various Faculties; pay
all prescrived fees.
iii) And comply with such other regulations and requirement as may be prescribed.
Minimum age of 16years on 1st October of the year of admission. General requirements
for entry course in the School Certificate or General Certificate of Education (SSCE) or
(GCE) of (NECO) with Credits in at least five (5) Ordinary Level subjects obtained at not
more than two sitting (subject to University requirements).
General requirements for entry to one-year remedial programme, minimum of ordinary
level credits in the relevant subjects including English and Mathematics. Remedial
courses are restricted to student from catchment areas. Direct Entry requirement
leading to honors degree is “A” Level passes with SSCE/GCE Ordinary Level Credit
passes in the required subjects at not more than two sittings. NCE Candidates are
required to posses two passes in two major subject and five “O” Level credit passes in
the relevant subjects.

Academic Session
The University of Maiduguri operates a two-semester sessions for its regular courses
and a long vacation period for vacant (or Extra mural) courses if any. A semester is
expected to last foro about 17 to 18 weeks (Including registration, teaching and
examination periods), provided that not less than 15 weeks each are actually devoted
to teaching.
Duration of Degree Programme
The minimum number of years to be spent to be awarded a first degree in a
programme of study in non professional areas shall be four years, and shall not exceed
an additional 50% of the duration of the programme if a student fails to graduate within
the minimum number of years. In some profressional areas, the requirement is longer.
Five years are the minimum in Agriculture, Engineering and Law, and six years in
Human and Veterinary Medicine.
